The 2012 Annual General Meeting of ICFO is being held in Madrid, Spain on 18-19 May 2012. It is being sponsored or hosted by Fundacion Lealtad,the Spanish Charity Monitoring member of the International Committee on Fundraising Organizations, the Association of National Monitoring Agencies. The first day is a public session, open to the public. The second day will be the official annual business meeting of the association.
The theme of this conference is independent monitoring of NGOs: Enhancing donor trust on a global basis.There will be four panel discussions and presentations, beginning with the donors' point of view, their expectations concerning an international platform of charity monitoring agencies. A major emphasis here with be the expectations of international institutional donors and their informational requirements. In other words, do charity's transparency and accountability initiatives address their needs.
This will be followed by a case study of NGO accountability initiative in Latin America and how we might engage donors' trust in emerging countries. The case studies will focus on projects recently developed in Chile, Argentina, and Mexico. They will include the definition of common transparency standards and how to promoted good practices through educational programs or analysis reporting. The question here that we have been addressing in ICFO is how we can support these local NGO accountability initiatives.
The next panel will address the challenges in NGO accountability in a global context. Again, the question we face is how ICFO can coordinated different national monitoring standards and agencies to work together in addressing the needs of NGOs raising funds and operation internationally.
The final panel will present closing thoughts as we attempt to address the donors' changing information requirements.
China will be represented by the China Charity Information Center (CCIC). With its vibrant economy and growing NGO sector, we look forward to a lively exchange.
